Mar Irenios leads Catholicate Day celebrations at  Mar Gregorios Maha Edavaka Muscat

CATHOLICATE DAY CELEBRATIONS

MUSCAT: HG Dr Yacob Mar Irenios, Metropolitan of Kochi Diocese, hoisted the Catholicate flag during the Catholicate Day (Church Day) celebrations of the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka, Muscat, on March 18, Friday.

Dr Mar Irenios in his presidential address hailed the efforts of the forefathers who toiled hard to make the present Malankara Orthodox Church. “We must be proud to be members of the Malankara Church, the ancient Apostolic church founded by St Thomas, in 1912,” His Grace said as he led the 104th year celebrations on the 40th day of the Great Lent.
Rev Fr Kuriakose Varghese, Associate Vicar, read out the Catholicate Day Kalpana from Catholicate of the East and Malankara Metropolitan His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Paulose II. Fr Jacob Mathew, Vicar/President, in his inaugural address called upon the faithful to extend all help to the Catholicate Day collection for 2016.
Varghese David, Co-Trustee, read out the Catholicate pledge. Mammen George, Diocese Council member, handed over the maiden Catholicate cover to Mar Irenaios. John Thomas, Trustee, also spoke, while John P Luke, Secretary, delivered the vote of thanks. The senior choir of the church chorused the Catholica mangala ganam towards the end.
