It is with deep sorrow and a very great sense of loss ,that I came to know about the sudden demise of this Valiant Orthodox Priest and a real crusader of the Church in Ernakulam District especially in and around Mulanthuruthy. Very Rev. Fr. Edappangatti l K. J. Kuriakose Cor Episcopa (76 yrs old) passed away to his eternal abode at about 5 pm on July 15th,Wednesday, He was the son of late Rev.Fr.Yacoub Cor Episcopa.Very Rev. Kuriakose Cor Episcopa was the founder Vicar of St.Gregoriose Orthodox Chapel,Thuruthikkar a and Catholicate Chapel,Mulanthuruth y.He also initiated the Parumala Annual Pilgrimage from Thuruthikkara near Mulanthuruthy. (Holy Relics of Parumala Thirumeni and Vattasseril Thirumeni are interred in the Thuruthikkara Mar Gregorios Chapel).
He was the Member of Malankara Sabha Managing Committee and has served as Vicars at Mar Thoman Church ,Mulanthuruthy ( 1984) and Saint Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral,Ernakulam (2001).His last Holy Quirbana was at Saint Gregorios Chapel at Thalacode where he had been distinguishingly serving as an exemplary Chaplain.He is survived by his wife Leelamma from Melekkat,Kalloopara .(a retired Teacher) and Son Mr.Aji Kurian (Associate Vice President Lodha Group) and daughter Dr.Sigi George (HOD ,,Manipal Institue of Technology).
Born and brought up in Mulanthuruthy he was very active in Social,Community and Church spheres.His concern and empathy for the poor and underprivileged were remarkably deep which resulted in him being very actively involved in various humanitarian activities in the area.To sum up he has been a very devout and faithful Orthodox High Priest,an excellent Counsellor,a valiant fighter for upkeeping Church’s faith and freedom as well as a truly noble soul who cared for his faithful flock unreservedly. He will be very sorely missed by the faithful in Mulanthuruthy and surrounding areas.
Many Bishops (even from Jacobite faction),Priests and faithful have poured into his house to offer respects and homage.HH The Catholicose, HG Mar Iraenios and HG Mar Severios led evening prayers at the residence.
I am confident that his soul will be welcomed in the Paradise with hosts of Saints and Angels.Let us pray for the soul of this noble and brave soldier of Orthodox faith whose homilies were as inspiring as they were holy and sweetly flavoured spiritually. His messages were meaningful,touching and thought provoking.
The funeral is scheduled for 2 pm on Friday,July 17th at Thuruthikkara Saint Gregorios Chapel as per his dear wish.A large number of Bishops and Priests are expected to take part.Let us pray for a hallowed funeral.
