താണ ജാതിക്കാര്‍ക്ക് അമ്പലത്തില്‍ കയറുവാനല്ല, വഴിയേ നടക്കുവാനുള്ള സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിനു വേണ്ടിയാണല്ലോ 1923-ല്‍ മഹാത്മജിയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹാശിസ്സുകളോടെ വൈക്കം സത്യഗ്രഹം ആരംഭിച്ചത്. എം. പി. പത്രോസ് ശെമ്മാശന്‍ പ്രസ്തുത സത്യഗ്രഹത്തില്‍ പങ്കെടുക്കുകയും വൈക്കം മണല്‍പ്പുറത്തു ചേര്‍ന്ന ഒരു വമ്പിച്ച സദസ്സില്‍ പ്രസംഗിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ശെമ്മാശന്‍റെ പ്രസംഗം അക്കാലത്തു മദ്രാസില്‍ നിന്നു, സുപ്രസിദ്ധനായ സത്യമൂര്‍ത്തിയുടെ പത്രാധിപത്യത്തില്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിരുന്ന “സ്വരാജ്യ” എന്ന ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പത്രത്തില്‍ “Rev. Peter’s Message” എന്ന വലിയ തലക്കെട്ടില്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിരുന്നു. അതിലെ ഏതാനും വരികളാണ് താഴെ ചേര്‍ക്കുന്ന്.
“I feel that the Maharajas of Travancore and Cochin come to fully understand the sufferings of the poor in the assertion of their elementary rights of citizen -ship. They will surely rise in the name of God and humanity and by means of a proclamation put a stop to this kind of sinful slavery. If the ancient Syrian Christain Community of Kerala had been sufficiently faithful to the freedom-giving Gospel of Christ. They would have done wonders in His great humanitarian work, but it is not too late. I therefore appeal to my community to show more interest in this anti-unapproachability movement, so that the Kingdom of God may be hastened in this great land.”

Deacon M P Peter at Vaikom Satyagraha
Vaikom Satyagraha was started in 1923 with the blessing of Mahatma Gandhi. It was not for entering temples by the depressed class but was for their freedom to walk through roads. The deacon M P Peter participated in that satyagraha and addressed that mammoth meeting held on the Vaikom seashore. His speech was published in an English newspaper from Madras “Swarajya” under the title “Rev Peter’s Message.” This paper’s editor was famous Satyamurthy. A few lines from his speech are given below:
