ബെംഗളൂരു ∙ നാവികസേന മുൻ ഉപമേധാവി റിട്ട. വൈസ് അഡ്മിറൽ പി.ജെ.ജേക്കബ് (രാജൻ–82) സർജാപുര റോഡിലെ വസതിയിൽ അന്തരിച്ചു. ഇന്ത്യൻ കോസ്റ്റ് ഗാർഡ് മുൻ ഡയറക്ടർ ജനറൽ, പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയുടെ ദേശീയ സുരക്ഷാ ഉപദേശക സമിതി അംഗം എന്നീ നിലകളിലും പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. നാവികസേനയ്ക്കായി ഒട്ടേറെ പരിശീലന സംരംഭങ്ങൾക്കു മേൽനോട്ടം വഹിച്ചു.

പ്രതിരോധ മന്ത്രാലയത്തിനും നാവികസേനയ്ക്കും വേണ്ടി വിവിധ രാജ്യങ്ങളുമായി ഒപ്പിട്ട തന്ത്രപ്രധാന ഉടമ്പടികൾക്കുള്ള പ്രതിനിധി സംഘങ്ങളെ നയിച്ചു. നോർവേയുടെ മധ്യസ്ഥതയിൽ എൽടിടിഇയുമായി നടന്ന സമാധാന ചർച്ചകളിൽ ശ്രീലങ്ക സർക്കാരിന്റെ സമുദ്ര സുരക്ഷാ ഉപദേഷ്ടാവായിരുന്നു. നാലു പതിറ്റാണ്ട് നീണ്ട സേവനത്തിനിടെ പരമവിശിഷ്ട സേവാ മെഡൽ, അതിവിശിഷ്ട സേവാ മെഡൽ, വിശിഷ്ട സേവാ മെഡൽ തുടങ്ങിയ ബഹുമതികൾ ലഭിച്ചു.

1998ൽ ഉപമേധാവിയായ അദ്ദേഹം 2001ൽ വിരമിച്ച ശേഷം ടിവിഎസ് ബോർഡ് ഓഫ് ഡയറക്ടേഴ്സ് അംഗമായും സുന്ദരം ക്ലേട്ടൺ ലിമിറ്റഡ്, ദു‌വാ കൺസൽറ്റിങ് എന്നിവയുടെ ഡയറക്ടറായും പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു.

Retired Vice Admiral PJ Jacob passes away.

Bengaluru ∙ Former Vice Chief of the Indian Navy Retd.Vice Admiral PJ Jacob (Rajan-82) passed away at his residence on Sarjapura Road. He is a family member in Chatannoor Valiyaveetil. Funeral on 25th at Kalpally Cemetery after Mass at St. Gregorios Orthodox Cathedral, Hosur Road.

He became the Vice Chief of Navy on March 31, 1998 and retired on February 28, 2001. He has served as the former Director General of the Indian Coast Guard and as a member of the Prime Minister’s National Security Advisory Council. Jacob has made many contributions in the field of maritime security and has led delegations for strategic agreements with various countries on behalf of the Ministry of Defense and the Navy.

He has been honored by the country with Param Vishishta Seva Medal, Ati Vishishta Seva Medal, Vishishta Seva Medal etc. After retirement, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of TVS and as a Director of Sundaram Clayton Limited and Dua Consulting. His wife is Salga, a member of the Talavadi Kalam family. Children: Captain Vivek Jacob (Merchant Navy), Adv. Deepak Eepan Jacob. Daughter-in-law: Anjana and Leenika.

VICE ADMIRAL P.J. JACOB (RETD.), PVSM, AVSM, VSM Vice Admiral P J Jacob retired in 2001 as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and the National Defence College, he has held a variety of key Operational and Training assignments in a career spanning forty years. He has commanded the Eastern Fleet and also been Director General of the Indian Coast Guard and was active in strategic planning and charting the future development of the Indian Navy. He has overseen numerous training initiatives and has led several Ministry of Defence / Navy delegations to negotiate intergovernmental agreements on strategic issues with various countries. Admiral Jacob is vastly experienced in the field of Maritime Security, an issue that is of growing relevance. A former member of the National Security Advisory Board to the Prime Minister, he has also served as the Advisor on Maritime Security to the Sri Lankan Government and was consulted on a number of security issues, especially those connected with the Norwegian sponsored peace negotiations with the LTTE. The Admiral is a recipient of the Param Vishist Seva Medal, Ati Vishist Seva Medal and the Vishist Seva Medal for distinguished service of an exceptional order. He is currently a Director in Dua Consulting, an Independent Director in Sundaram Clayton Ltd, and the Chairman of the Global India Foundation, which is an initiative to contribute to India’s efforts in playing a meaningful and constructive role in regional and global affairs and promote international interdependence. He has participated in India Taiwan Dialogue which was organized by National Institute of Advanced Studies, CII and Dua Consulting in 2005. He has also visited Taiwan to participate in Taiwan-India-Japan Strategic Dialogue on Regional Security and has presented Regional Maritime Security with focus on sea lines of communication. He continues to participate in seminars on Geo-Strategic and Maritime Security issues conducted by Asia Centre, Bangalore International Centre and the National Institute of Advanced Studies.
