MUSCAT: Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka (MGOME), Muscat under Indian Orthodox Diocese of Ahmedabad, has launched another new charity drive named ‘Santhawanam’ from September 7, Friday.
The charity drive was launched by Very Rev Basalel Ramban from Basil Dayara, Pathanamthitta, in the presence of Fr Mathai Palath, Vicar/President, MGOME, Assoc Vicar Fr Bejoy Varghese and Fr Thomas Raju from Mavelikkara Diocese.
Thomas Danielle Lewis, from the Brahmavar Diocese (Goan) Orthodox Church, made the maiden contribution to the charity box, as member of the Muscat Maha Edavaka.
In his speech, Vicar Fr Mathai Palath said the charity box will take care of the needs of poor towards educational, housing and health care aspects. The vicar recalled the association of the Brahmavar community since its existence as being part of the Indian Orthodox Church through the contributions of the late Blessed Archbishop St Alvares Mar Julius 1.
The parish already has the Marriage Aid Fund charity drive in which the boxes are kept at the residence of the parishioners. These are collected during the annual house visits of the vicar in November/December each year.
Rev Basalel Ramban hailed the various charity contributions by the Muscat Orthodox church and said they will go a long way towards encouraging the younger generation towards good deeds.
Earlier, Rev Basalel led the tri-mass during the feast of the Assumption of St Mary, along with Fr Thomas and Fr Bejoy, culminating in the 8-day lent.
Benson Skaria, MGOME parish member, designed the logo for the charity project which shows a flying dove and the theme song for the project was sung by the senior choir of MGOME.
Parish Trustee Biju Parumala, Co-Trustee Jabson Varghese, Secretary Binu Joseph Kunchattil, and Biju George, Convener, Santhwanam Project was also present during the launch.
