Mar Coorilos leads feast of St George at Muscat Mar  Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka


MUSCAT: HG Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, Metropolitan, Bombay Diocese, led celebrations of the feast of St George (Geevarghese Sahada) at the St Thomas Church, Ruwi, on May 4, Friday.
Mar Coorilos led the holy Eucharist as the chief celebrant for the feast. In his message to the faithful, the Metropolitan dwelt on the qualities of St George, the Prince of the Martyrs, pointing the saint was tortured to make him deny his faith in Christ. ‘Such was his faith and willingness to accept God which all must follow,’ he said.
St George’s Day, also known as the Feast of Saint George, is celebrated as a feast day by various Christian churches and by several countries, kingdoms, and cities of which Saint George is the patron saint.
His Grace also offered memorial prayers for the 105th memorial of HH Baselius Paulose I Catholicos or Murimattathil Bava who was the first Catholicos of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.
Earlier, on May 3, Thursday, after evening prayers Vicar/President Fr Jacob Mathew, Assoc Vicar Fr Bejoy Varghese led a rasa of the faithful from St Thomas Church to Muscat Maha Edavaka followed by intercession and benediction.
Large number of faithful attended the rasa and holy liturgy during the two day festival. Nercha sponsored by members of the Maha Edavaka was offered during the festival.
The Vicar, Assoc Vicar along with the new managing committee under Biju Parumala as Trustee, Jabson Varghese, Co-Trustee, and Binu Joseph Kunchattil, Secretary, successfully conducted the festival.
