MUSCAT: Ahmedabad Diocese Metropolitan HG Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios concluded a successful 3-week Lenten visit to the Sultanate of Oman. Churches in the Sultanate come under the Indian Orthodox Diocese of Ahmedabad.
During the visit Metropolitan Mar Yulios visited all the four parishes in the Sultanate namely Mar Gregorios Orthodox Mahaedavaka (MGOME), Muscat, St Mary’s Orthdox Church, Ghala (Muscat), St George Orthodox Church, Sohar, and St Stephen’s Orthodox Church, Salalah, and other congregations which were not included during the previous visit.
The main highlight of the visit was the Silver Jubilee (25 year) celebration of priesthood anniversary among his faithful in Oman on March 17.
His Grace also presented the Muscat Mahaedavaka Thanal Charity Award for 2016-17 to HG Dr Mathews Mar Severios, Metropolitan, Kandanad West Diocese, and Holy Episcopal Synod Secretary. His Grace also led the 35th anniversary celebrations of Muscat Mar Gregorios Mahaedavaka Sunday School at St Thomas Church, Ruwi. The Metropolitan also addressed the Akhila Malankara Orthodox Shushrushaka Sangham (AMOSS) meeting of Muscat Mar Gregorios Mahaedavaka, after the holy liturgy of Mid-lent, on March 21.
The Metropolitan also said work on the construction of the new church in Ghala will commence from May 2017. His Grace who returned to Kerala on March 23, Thursday, will continue his Lenten visit to parishes in Rajasthan state from next week.
