The Ahmedabad Diocese of Indian Orthodox Church had a Diocesan Council meeting, an Annual Diocesan General Assembly and Diocesan Priests’ meeting that convened at the Diocesan Head Quarters situated at St. Thomas Bishop House, Naroda in Gujarat on 17th & 18th of July 2015. Our shepherd and Diocesan Metropolitan, H.G. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Yulios led the presidency for all the meetings.
The council meeting was held on 17th evening after the vespers. On 18th, the matins was followed by Holy Eucharist and thereafter a meeting of Diocesan Priests was called. Post to the Priests’ meeting, the General Assembly commenced. A warm welcome with procession was arranged for welcoming the Diocesan Metropolitan by all the priests & faithful to the assembly. H.G. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Yulios presided over the annual general assembly. The Diocesan Secretary Rev. Fr. Jacob Mathew took the opportunity to welcome the participants. The delegations included clergies, laities in charge who came all the way from different parishes of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh & Sultanate of Oman.
The preliminary agendas of the annual general assembly included the Catholicate Day collection. Diocesan Secretary read the Kalpana of H.H. Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, Catholicos of the East & the Malankara Metropolitan. The collection was handed over to Diocesan Metropolitan. It was indeed a matter of joy and pride that all parishes of the Diocese have crossed this time too the total targeted amount for them. The Diocesan Metropolitan appreciated all the priests & faithful members for this achievement.
After the first session, Diocesan Secretary read the Kalpana of the Diocesan Metropolitan for the annual general assembly. After the presidential address by His Grace, the Diocesan Secretary Rev. Fr. Jacob Mathew presented the 6th annual report & annual accounts, which was passed unanimously by the assembly members after due deliberation & explanations. The general assembly concordantly passed the proposal about increment in the salary of priests with a basic pay of Rs.15,600/-. The assembly discussed various upcoming projects and developments in the diocese including the purchase of land and construction of building for proposed St. Mary’s International school.
Finally in the concluding session, Diocesan Metropolitan H.G Dr. Geevarghese Mar Yulios expressed sincere gratitude towards all the efforts of the faithful under their respective vicars, for their involvement and valuable support extended to church & various developmental projects, which in collaboration boosts the diocese to touch the heights. To conclude the assembly, the Aramana Manager, Rev. Fr. Isaac Thomas extended the vote of Thanks. Thereafter with noon prayer and benediction the Diocesan Annual General Assembly was dispersed.
