NARODA, Ahmedabad: HG Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, Ahmedabad Diocese Metropolitan, has convened the election of the Diocesan General Assembly who will elect members who will hold the post for the next 5 years till 2022.
The election has been scheduled to be held on February 10, 2017, Friday, at 11 am at St Thomas Aramana Chapel, Naroda, Ahmedabad, under the Chairmanship on behalf of His Holiness, the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan, vide Kalpana No 291/2016 dated December 27, 2016.
The election process will be held from among the duly elected representatives of parishes to the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Churches (MOSC) from the Diocese and the existing Sabha Managing Committee members.
The meeting is being convened to elect and nominate a priest to the new Sabha Managing Committee from Ahmedabad Diocese, who will be elected on March 1, 2017 at Kottayam, for the next five years. The meeting will also elect and nominate three lay representatives to the new Sabha Managing Committee from the Diocese, which is also slated to be held on March 1 at Kottayam, for the next five years.
Simultaneously, a meeting of the priests, and duly elected representatives to the Diocesan General Assembly from the parishes in the Diocese, has been convened on the same day at 12.30 pm, at the Diocese Head Quarters, St Thomas Aramana Chapel.
The Metropolitan who will chair the meeting as President will transact to elect a priest as Diocesan Secretary for the next five years from 2017 to 2022.
The meeting is also scheduled to elect two priests to the Diocesan Council for the next five years and elect four Lay Representatives to the Diocesan Council for the next five years, from 2017 till 2022.
Mar Yulios in a Kalpana No 56/16, dated December 30, 2016, has directed the Vicar and the duly elected representatives from the parishes to the Diocesan General Assembly, whose names appear in the final list of members of the Diocesan General Assembly already published at the Diocesan Office, Ahmedabad, will ‘only’be eligible to attend and vote at the meeting.
Those desiring to contest the election have been advised to obtain the nomination forms and submit them to the Diocesan Secretary or the office of the Returning Officer by February 9, 2017 before 1 pm. – LC
