Dr. Mathews Mar Severios Metropolitan <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>Dr. Mathews Mar Severios is one of the senior Metropolitans of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. While His Grace is governing full-time the Diocese of Kandanad-West, he is holding the additional responsibility of the Dioceses of Malabar from July 2019 and Idukki from December 2019, as Metropolitan-in-charge. For long years His Grace was the Secretary of the Holy Episcopal Synod. Currently, he is the Assistant to the Catholicos and Malankara Metropolitan of the Church and the Vice-President of the Orthodox Theological Seminary.<\/p>\n

He was born on 12 February 1949 to Vazhoor, Mattathil Cheriyan Anthrayose and Mariamma. After his BD Degree from the Orthodox Theological Seminary, on 30 June 1978 he was ordained to priesthood and on 30 April 1991 he was consecrated to Episcopacy. BSc, Kerala Univeristy (1971), BD, Serampore University (1977), Postgraduate Diploma in Theology, Leningrad Theological Academy (1979), Doctoral Degree in the Christology of Philexenos of Mabbug, Pontifical Oriental Institute, Rome (1984), are the formal academic credentials to the credit of His Grace. In the year 2016, taking a Sabbatical, His Grace managed to revise his doctoral dissertation, which is later on published by Lit Verlag<\/em> in 2020. Marking his 35th\u00a0year of teaching Christology in Orthodox Theological Seminary, a Festschrift in his honour, in 2015, titled Begotten Not Made: Christology in Perspectives <\/em>was produced by his colleagues and students.<\/p>\n

His Grace\u2019s pastoral and administrational engagements are further extended in holding the offices as President of innumerable charitable trusts, as Pachomios Charitable Society, Meempara. Prathibha Charitable Trust, Kolenchery, Mother Hannah Charitable Society, Kozhimala, Mother Yohanna Charitable Society, Adupputty, Saritha-Sanitha Charitable Trust, Muvattupuzha Mar Baselios Children Home, Mannapra Dr. Mathews Mar Severios charitable society, Vazhoor\u00a0 and so on. His Grace\u2019s commitment to the ascetical life made him to oversee Vallikkattu Dayara, Vettickal Dayara, Mylapra Ashram, Attappady Ashram, Othara Convent & Adupputty Convent, as visitor bishop.<\/p>\n

His Grace\u2019s philanthropic fervour made him the founder of more than seventeen charitable organizations run by the Diocese of Kandanad-West of which the beneficiaries are people from all the walks of life, transcending the barriers of any denominations and religions. The theological post-graduates and research degree holders from variant denominational background guided by him through the Federated Faculty for Research in Religion and Culture, of the Serampore University, are living examples for His Grace\u2019s ecumenical commitment.<\/p>\n
