Zachariah Mar Nicholovos Metropolitan has been elected to the Executive Committee of the World Council of Churches. The Executive Committee is constituted out of the Central Committee of the WCC and is responsible to monitor the ongoing works of the Organization.\u00a0After Dr. Paulose Mar Gregorios, this is the first time that a Metropolitan has been elected as a member of the\u00a0Executive\u00a0Council. Fr. Dr. K. M George has worked as an ex-officio in the Executive Committee, in his position as the Moderator of the Planning Committee.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Central Committee<\/b><\/span><\/a> elects\u00a0twenty of its members to serve as the Executive Committee of the WCC, along with the Central Committee officers<\/b><\/span><\/a> – moderator, two vice-moderators and the general secretary – as well as the moderators of its programme and finance committees.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Meeting twice a year, the Executive Committee’s role in policy-making is limited to matters specifically referred to it by the Central Committee – apart from unforeseen emergencies, in regard to which it may take provisional decisions.
